Remnant ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") is a location-based voice note app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Remnant, you agree to the practices described here.
Account Information. When you create an account, we collect basic identifying information (such as email address or phone number) through our authentication provider, Firebase Authentication.
Location Data. Remnant's core feature requires access to your device's GPS location. We collect:
We do not store a continuous history of your location. Background location access, when granted, is used only to check your proximity to pinned Remnant locations for the purpose of sending you a notification — it is not logged, retained, or used for any other purpose. You can disable background ("Always") location access at any time in your device's Settings; this will turn off nearby-Remnant notifications but will not affect the App's core in-app functionality, which only needs location access while the App is open.
Voice Note Content. We collect and store the audio recordings you create, along with associated metadata (timestamp, location, and any text you add).
Date of Birth. We collect your date of birth at signup to verify you meet the App's minimum age requirement of 16. Your date of birth is stored on your account record for as long as your account is active, so that age eligibility can be re-verified if needed.
Usage and Device Information. We may collect standard technical information such as device type, operating system version, app version, and crash/diagnostic logs to help us maintain and improve the App.
Inviting Friends. Remnant may let you invite friends to download the App (for example, by sharing a link to the App Store listing). Inviting a friend does not grant them access to your voice notes, account, or any other data — it simply shares information about the App itself.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your voice note content or location history for advertising.
We share information only in the following circumstances:
We do not share your precise location history with other users. Other users can only learn that a note exists at a location by physically being at that location.
We retain your account information and voice notes for as long as your account is active. You may delete individual voice notes or your entire account at any time within the App. When you delete your account, we immediately delete your account settings, your voice notes (including their audio and photo files), and your account credentials. This action cannot be undone. A limited technical record may be retained after account deletion — for example, another user's record that they discovered one of your notes — solely to help us respond to support inquiries. This record does not include your voice note content and cannot be used to re-create your account or content. We periodically review and clean up this residual data.
Remnant is not intended for use by anyone under 16. We verify this at signup via date of birth, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under this age. If we learn that we have collected information from someone under 16, we will delete their account and associated data.

We use industry-standard measures, including Firebase's built-in authentication and access-control rules, to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You can enable, disable, or change location permissions for Remnant at any time in your device's Settings app. Disabling location access entirely will prevent you from dropping or unlocking voice notes, as this is core to how the App works. If you've granted "Always" access, you can downgrade it to "While Using the App" instead — this only disables background nearby-Remnant notifications and does not affect any other App functionality.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other reasonable means. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
Remnant is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the App's operation, including but not limited to:
You acknowledge that technical issues (including but not limited to GPS inaccuracy, server downtime, sync failures, or software bugs) may result in delayed, lost, corrupted, or inaccessible voice notes or account data. We recommend not relying on Remnant as the sole storage location for content you cannot afford to lose.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we and our developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, content, revenue, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the App, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
